The Savvy Bride

The Wedding Movie, Starring...You!

There’s never been a better time to be a drama queen … in a good way!

Technology has given a dramatic spin to the traditional wedding video, and now you can expect anything from a three-dimensional montage to an epic love story of major motion picture proportions.

Wedding videographers today are akin to Hollywood filmmakers when it comes to their editing and production capabilities. And the Indie video documentary is one of the latest trends designed to showcase not just the story of your day, but also all the emotions, moods, and characters involved. It plays like a movie — one that your friends and family will want to watch more than once!

Another Tinseltown-like trend is the “wedding trailer.” Much like a movie trailer for the big screen, this is a teaser for family and friends who are waiting to see your full-length wedding video. In a dazzling two- to three-minute clip, the highlights of your wedding day are covered, complete with special editing effects, musical score, and a voiceover, if you so choose. You can even create a link online to send to loved ones or include with your thank-you notes!

Three-dimensional photo-montage shows are also big if you want to awe your guests during the wedding, or more likely, the reception. Still images (often from your childhood or courtship) are digitally manipulated into 3D images which are played as a movie with special effects and music.
If you’re seeking an edgy, artistic memento after the big day, “Trash the Dress” video sessions (sometimes shot along with a photography session) are popular with some of today’s couples. This idea is all about having fun and not worrying about soiling your dress, since it has already fulfilled its primary function of getting you down the aisle in perfect shape. After the wedding, you can be as creative as you want to be!

Still another idea is having your videographer edit old home video footage or scrapbook stuff, like love notes or your invitation, into your wedding video. There’s even the edgy choice that some couples are making to include a “trash the dress” video session (which is usually shot along with a photography session).

The idea is all about having fun while creating a lasting memento. Deciding how you want to document your day is up to you. But with all the amazing choices, coming to a conclusion may just evoke a standing ovation. ~KGM
