Play 20 Questions … And Find the Perfect Caterer

Food and drink are an important part of almost any celebration, but nowhere is that truer than at a wedding reception. As you interview caterers to find the one that fits your style and budget, make it a point to ask these 20 questions. You’ll walk away with a clear idea of which individual or catering company can best make your day especially delicious!

  • Are you insured?
  • Do you have a liquor license?
  • How are payments handled?
  • When are deposits and payments due?
  • When do you need the final head count and, after that date, how are additions and cancellations managed?
  • Do you provide tables, chairs, and linens?
  • Do you have a food specialty?
  • Do you charge a corkage fee?
  • Do you provide all glassware, china, and flatware?
  • Is there a cake-cutting fee?
  • What type of serving-ware do you use, and can it be altered to coordinate with the theme and colors used in the wedding?
  • May I see pictures of your food presentations?
  • Do you have references from couples you’ve worked with?
  • Can you accommodate special requests from guests, including those who have allergies or lactose intolerance, are vegetarians, or keep Kosher?
  • Is there a way for us to sample your food?
  • Are services priced per person, and what does that include?
  • What taxes and gratuities are added to the price?
  • What is the maximum number of events you service in one day?
  • Who will be our go-to person on the day of our event?
  • How much set-up and break-down time do you require?
