Planning Your Destination Wedding...Do You Know Where You're Going To?

Just as planning a wedding in your hometown requires the ability to coordinate many things simultaneously, planning a destination wedding is a job where multi-tasking skills are essential. The tricky part is that it is long distance! Staying realistic and organized is our best advice. Likewise, working with a team of wedding professionals, both here and at your destination, will save time and energy while ensuring you have all the assistance you need.

After connecting with a travel agent (yes, you need one!), you’ll want to hiring a wedding planner who specializes in destination weddings, as both can spare you hours of legwork. Many destination wedding planners offer a variety of services, from turn-key planning to à la carte items.

You may also have a network of hometown vendors you’d like to work with. Feel free to bring them along! You will know exactly what to expect, without surprises. This is especially true of photographers and video specialists — two crucial areas you don’t want to leave to chance.

Depending on your selected destination, you will likely have a local team to rely on, as well. Most resorts will provide an on-site wedding coordinator to assist you throughout the planning process and be available to manage and/or direct your wedding and reception. And the concierge staff at your destination site can be lifesavers when it comes to suggesting and arranging group activities and dining options, and handling last-minute details and minor emergencies. Your local team can also recommend reputable vendors who regularly do business with the facility.

Here’s to a wonderful trip down the aisle (or isle) of your dreams! ~AW
