Exit, Stage … Coach? Making Your Grand Getaway
The music is winding down, the cake has been cut and it’s finally starting to sink in that you’ve really been pronounced husband and wife. Now it’s time to wave goodbye to friends and family and venture off into married life together. So, what’s the best way to be bid adieu? Below are some suggestions for how your guests can see you off in style.*
- Sassy Sendoffs: Throwing rice is a traditional way to wish the newlyweds well and, contrary to popular
belief, is not harmful to our feathered friends (although they might prefer a birdseed toss). However, rice is hard and can quickly become a slippery hazard once it hits the ground. Some brides and grooms opt to be showered in fresh, fragrant rose petals; others hand out sparklers to light up the night, or distribute “kissing bells” for guests to ring. Ribbon wands are also becoming increasingly popular. They can coordinate with the wedding colors and, after you’ve left the building, they become instant party favors. Bubbles can create beautiful farewell pictures but be aware that they may stain clothes and could make for a soapy, slick surface that might cause problems. - Animal Instincts: You and your guests won’t soon forget an awe-inspiring release of butterflies or white doves as you leave the reception. Of course you should trust this celebratory feat only to a professional. We’d advise a thorough check into the reputation of the company, with an accent on safety and care for the animals.
- The Great Escape: From a stretch limo to a horse and buggy, to horses minus the buggy, your choice of
getaway transportation is limited only by your imagination. Rent a classic vintage car, hop into a Hummer, drive away in a Jeep, or zoom-vroom on a motorcycle into the sunset — dress permitting, of course. If you are near water, make waves in a Jet Ski, a powerboat, or a yacht. Or, float of into the clouds via a hot-air balloon! - Role of a Lifetime: Headed to the islands for your honeymoon? Play the part! Trade the dress and tux for wetsuits and snorkels or hula skirts and leis as you go your merry way. Setting out for the slopes? Accessorize with ski poles and toboggans and get ready for your mountain adventure.
No matter what best suits your style, be sure to put these last-minute details on your “to do” list. After a fun but exhausting wedding day, you’ll be ready to say farewell to your guests and hello to each other as you begin this new chapter in your life story. ~CM
