Capturing the Reel Event......Wedding Videographers Are Where It’s At

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but video actually gives you the words along with the visual. “Nothing tells the whole event better than video,” says Cinematrimony’s Darin Holiday, a Charlotte-area wedding videographer.

Thanks to the digital revolution, digital video, known as DV, is about the highest quality format that exists. DV’s extremely high resolution retains its quality from generation to generation, so your videographer can burn copies of your DVD for friends and family, and they will enjoy the same high quality as your original. Another process, although more expensive to obtain, is shooting in HD (high definition) which gives you that same crystal-clear picture you see on flat-screen televisions.

With the advances in technology, videographers can also be more discreet in their shooting. They no longer need to be stationed behind a tripod, but are able to move about with hand-held cameras. The latest cameras are also better suited for shooting in low light, and can be attached to a boom (a long, extendable pole) and controlled from a distance, in order to capture close-ups without disrupting the mood or interfering with the photographer. Videographers can also subtly plant tiny wireless microphones on key participants so you don’t have to worry about tripping over wires or holding onto a microphone for every key moment.

Innovations in today’s videography also give you a number of options for viewing during and after your event. Same-day-edits allow guests to see your ceremony — and even parts of your reception — minutes after it’s recorded. And for those who enjoy the ultimate in convenience and portability, wedding videos can now be streamed through your iPod or over the Internet.

Still photography is wonderful for holding your wedding memories, but for capturing the immediacy and feeling of being in the moment, there is nothing that does the job quite like the latest in video. ~KGM
