Avoid Wardrobe Malfunctions...The Best-Laid Plans Often Make the Day

Putting together your whole ensemble as early as possible can eliminate last-minute surprises and problems on your wedding day. Heather Batt, owner of Hayden Olivia Bridal, recommends that a bride choose her accessories, veil, and shoes when she orders her gown. Batt says many brides wait too long and are sometimes not able to finalize those details that complete the desired look. Follow these tips for planning ahead so that you can minimize last-minute wardrobe worries:

  • Choose the gown that fits you now. If you lose weight, the gown can always be altered.
  • Find out how to care for your gown. Never use an iron. A lint roller will often remove dirt at the hemline, and you can use soda water or even a toothbrush and a little soap and water to gently remove small stains.
  • Make sure your gown has a strong, well-constructed bustle (a support used to expand the fullness and drapery of the back of the gown) that will look good and stay in place at the reception.
  • Keep your accessories simple. Avoid “the Christmas tree effect” by wearing jewelry that does not compete with your gown — a fabulous pair of earrings is usually enough. Choose a veil that complements your gown and creates a sense of balance.
  • Put comfort inserts (like Foot Petals cushions) in your shoes so that you’ll be comfortable through your last dance. ~BP
