What Do You Do When the Season Doesn’t Match Your Favorite Wedding Flowers?
Savvy Q : What Do You Do When the Season Doesn’t Match Your Favorite Wedding Flowers?
Savvy A:
When you were 5, you fell in love with the peonies that filled your grandmother’s garden in spring. You always dreamed that, someday, they would be in your wedding bouquet. Now, you’re getting married but the wedding is in October. And this year’s peonies have already pooped out.

Of course, you can still have peonies but, since they’re now out of season in your area, they’ll be so expensive. What are you willing to give up so you can have your dream flowers and still keep the budget intact? Or maybe there’s another way.
Talk to your floral designer. Although most out-of-season flowers can be procured, chances are they grow in a region so far away from where you live that shipping them is prohibitively expensive. However, there are lots of flowers available year-round that can be substituted for those that are unavailable or not in your budget. For instance, there are many roses in the garden that have a lush, soft look similar to peonies.
A good floral designer will consider the texture, the shape, and the colors of the flowers you long to carry, and will recommend alternatives that are very similar so that you get the look you want, if not the actual flowers. The professional florist will make sure the mood and the theme perfectly reflect your wedding vision. ~JSC
